2nd International Conference on Business, education management at Sukkur IBA University
(Sukkur February 24, 2018): “As a politician I often worry about the declining economic situation of the country, because 40 years ago Pakistan’s economy was far more better than Saudi Arabia, Korea and other countries”, said, leader of the opposition in the national assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah while speaking as a chief guest at 2nd International Conference on Business, education management at Sukkur IBA University on Friday. He said, we should sit together and think as to why our economy is worsening day by day, which is quite alarming. Giving example of better education, he asked why Pakistan cannot become one like Sukkur IBA University, LUMS and ZABIST. It requires strong will to overcome the present situation, he went on saying, during last 55 years Pakistan borrowed around Rs. 14000 billion, while during last five years, the present federal government has borrowed Rs. 7000 billion taking the foreign debts to Rs. 21000 billion. Criticizing media, Shah said, the media always run after the breaking stories, but never mention heavy debts, which are overburdening the Pakistanis, adding, every child born in Pakistan carries debt of Rs. 125000, without even borrowing a single penny. The biggest problem of Pakistan is ever-rising population and we never pay heed to it, he said. He urged upon the economists to sit together and match economic indicators to population and come up with some concrete solutions. Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University Professor Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui in his welcome address thanked the participants, who have travelled a long way to attend the conference. Referring to the business, economics, education management he said, we have faced five technological revolutions during last 200 years. First revolution was the machinery, second was coal and steam run engines, third was steel and heavy engineering, fourth was automobiles and fifth was IT and Telecom. The sixth revolution is emerging fast, which is all about artificial intelligence and after every revolution we face economic boom, which is always followed by economic slowdown, he said. Now once again we are facing economic slowdown, which is because of the onslaught of digitalization. According to him, in Asian countries growth rate is 5 and above. We must think how to overcome the challenge of onslaught of technology, like driverless cars and others, due to which large number of people will be deprived to their jobs. We must go for economic reforms and find solution to this problem, he said. The key note speakers including, Dr. Rosella Castellano Professor and Researcher at University of Macerata, Italy, Dr. Ramayah Tharasamy Professor at School of Management University Sains, Malaysia, Dr. Mohammad Memon Chairman BISE Hyderabad and Dr. Dawood Ashraf Senior Researcher at Islamic Research and Training Institute Bangor University, Saudi Arabia shed light on the economic reforms and changing economic trends and promote savings to safeguard future. Penalists including, Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gillani Head of Gallup Pakistan, Dr. Mohammad Zaki Rashdi Director and Associate Dean at Iqra University, Dr. Tariq Kaleem Executive Director at Institute of Charter Accountants Pakistan and Ms. Almas Abbas and others held brain-storming sessions on economic and educational reforms. The day one started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, which was followed by the national anthem. Dr. Niaz Ali Bhutto head of the department Business Administration in his introductory note briefed the participants about the theme of the conference. On the concluding day prizes and souvenirs were distributed among the winners by the Registrar Sukkur IBA University Engr. Zahid Hussain Khand. Prize for best student paper was won by Vikesh kumar, Soman Sajid, Mohammad Ali, Kiran Tariq and Mohammad Adnan. Zara Ali Abbasi, Dr. Areeba Khan and Dr. Sonia Irshad, Dr. Tariq Aziz, Ranjeeta Sadhwani and Um-e-Habiba won the prizes of best paper and Iqbal Yasin, Sawera Khan, Syed Sabika Zaidi, Sumbul Imran and Rooma Devi won the prizes for best case study.
