HEC Regional Showcasing Event for Universities of Interior Sindh
(Sukkur IBA University September 26, 2017): It is an irony that, there is a wide gap between the government and private educational institutions, remarked Acting Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University Engr. Zahid Hussain Khand, while addressing the faculty and students of different universities of Sindh, at Knowledge Centre on Tuesday. The even titled HEC Regional Showcasing Event for Universities of Sindh, aimed at to celebrate 15 years (2002-2017) of the HEC. The acting VC said, to overcome this gap, the Sukkur IBA University is running ten community colleges throughout upper Sindh, while two IT colleges have been established in district Khairpur. Our National Talent Hunt Program is aimed at to bring underprivileged students of the government schools at par with those coming from good private schools. Under this program, 75 students each from all four provinces are selected, who are taught English, mathematics and computer in a foundation program for six months and during that period they also get Rs. 4000 per month as food allowance, he went on saying, and thus every classroom of the Sukkur IBA University turns into a mini Pakistan. Those who maintain good percentage after six months foundation program, are selected from the regular program of four years, he said. Talking about the development of Sukkur IBA University, the acting VC said, Sukkur IBA become degree awarding institute in 2006 and since then it is moving towards the right way with the help of Sindh government and HEC. In his speech, the Regional Director HEC Javaid Memon urged upon the billionaires to come forward and invest in the education sector. He said, we need to establish more universities and campuses to overcome the shortage of the institutions. At present, we are providing higher education to three million students, which is lowest figure and in this regard, we have to “do more”, he added. At higher educational institutions, we should also give some time for the counselling of the students, which will help them in identifying and solving the problems. Besides we also need to increase faculty in the higher education institutions, which at present is only ten thousand. Later he along with the acting VC Engr. Zahid Hussain Khan, Director ORIC Pervaiz Memon and others visited stalls established by different universities of Sindh, including, Sukkur IBA University, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, Sindh University Jamshoro, ISRA University Hyderabad, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana, The Benazir Bhutto University of Technology and Skill Development Khairpur, People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women Nawabshah, Liaquat University of Medicines and Health Sciences Jamshoro.
